ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE DEATH OF PROFESSOR ANTÓNIO LOPES

With the greatest sadness, the PETALL community informs you of the death of Professor António Lopes, on 14 December 2019. António was a dear friend and a valued colleague. He brought a high level of expertise and a breath of experience to the PETALL Project as well as to every project he would embrace.
He was a renowned language expert and published a wide list of scientific publications, nationally and internationally, in the areas of the English language and culture and the teaching of English. He was a guest speaker at several conferences and member of academic juries in Portugal and abroad.
He always showed great enthusiasm and availability in the way he embraced all activities and challenges, as well as requests for collaboration within the University of Algarve, his research centre CETAPS and other institutions. We extend our deepest sympathy to his family.

This year, the Third International Conference on New Trends in Foreign Language Teaching held in Granada, 13-15 MAY 2020, will be a tribute to Professor António Lopes. (Registration for former members of the PETALL project is free)

PETALL project awarded the European Languages Label 2016

The PETALL project was awarded the European Languages Label (ELL) by the Portuguese Erasmus + Agency. Lucia Tardão prepared the paperwork and submitted it for the 2016 application.

The results came out in December 2016. Please visit http://www.erasmusmais.pt/erasmusmais/downloads/Resultados.JPG (in Portuguese)

The ELL, it is "an award encouraging new initiatives in the field of teaching and learning languages, the rewarding of new techniques in language teaching, and spreading the knowledge of languages' existence, thereby promoting good practice."
Quoted from http://ec.europa.eu/education/initiatives/language-label_pt

This is an outstanding recognition of our work and we thank the Portuguese National Agency for the Award!

The specifically human capacity for language enables children to provide for auxiliary tools in the solution of difficult tasks, to overcome impulsive action, to plan a solution to a problem prior to its execution, and to master their own behavior.
